Grant summary:
What Poetry is, the first comprehensive institutional survey exhibition of Japanese poet and multimedia artist
Gōzō Yoshimasu in the German-speaking world. Presented at Kunsthalle Zürich from February 6 to May 23, 2027,
the exhibition brings together works spanning poetry, sound, photography, video, performance, and works on paper and copper.
Through Yoshimasu’s distinctive practice, the exhibition explores the materiality of language and the relationships
between voice, memory, place, and the body. A comprehensive public programme and an English-language monographic
publication will further introduce Yoshimasu’s work to international audiences.
